GIS Manager
Location: Dallas, TX (On-site: 5 days in office)
The Firm: Data-Driven, Real-Asset Focused
Stronghold Investment Management ("Stronghold," "SIM," or "the Firm") is a technology-driven, vertically integrated investment manager focused on real-assets and related private markets. Stronghold seeks to deliver best-in-class risk-adjusted returns through an investment framework that features comparatively rapid transaction velocity, deep technical expertise, creative financial structuring, and objective and algorithmic decision making.
Stronghold was founded by Ryan Turner in 2016 and has deployed over $1.6 billion in capital across 10+ investment vehicles. Ultimately, Stronghold intends to apply its technology-intensive investment approach to a variety of specialist real assets verticals, including:
- Oil & Gas
- Renewables
- Specialty Real Estate (commercial, datacenters, marinas)
- Telecommunications and Technology Infrastructure
- Billboards and Fixtures
- Mining & other commodities
- Utilities
- Secondaries
Your Mission
Stronghold is growing, and we're searching for a talented GIS Manager to lead and expand our geospatial capabilities. In this role, you'll own the strategy, standards, and execution of GIS operations across a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team — while remaining a hands-on contributor yourself. The ideal candidate brings both the technical depth to do the work and the leadership instincts to build the function. You thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, can balance big-picture thinking with detail-level quality, and are energized by building something that matters from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities – What You'll Own
- GIS Function Leadership: Build, lead, and develop a high-performing GIS team, establishing workflows, quality standards, and capacity planning to support Land, Engineering, and Geological teams across multiple U.S. basins.
- Hands-On Geospatial Delivery: Remain an active contributor — producing and QC'ing maps, conducting spatial analysis, and stepping in on complex or high-priority deliverables alongside your team.
- Analytical Oversight: Direct and perform analysis of horizontal wellbores and drilling units to determine participation using acreage allocation and lateral length allocation methods.
- Standards and Governance: Own coordinate system standards, spatial accuracy protocols, QC processes, and documentation — ensuring consistency and reliability across all geospatial outputs.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with and communicate across multiple disciplines including Land, Engineering, and Geology to troubleshoot issues, remove blockers, and drive operational efficiency.
- Regulatory Intelligence: Research, interpret, and apply state-specific oil and gas regulations, spacing rules, and unitization requirements — and ensure your team is equipped to do the same.
- Data Integrity: Oversee the maintenance and ongoing accuracy of the land grid, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved systematically.
Qualifications – What You Bring
- A Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or a related discipline.
- 5–8+ years of GIS experience
- Deep proficiency with the ArcGIS suite and related products.
- A hands-on approach — comfortable setting direction at the team level and diving deep into the technical details when the work demands it.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical geospatial concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart
- Previous experience supporting Land teams in the upstream Oil and Gas sector is strongly preferred.
- 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Familiarity with property legal terminology, including Deed plot and the Public Land Survey System (PLSS).
- Experience building or scaling a GIS function — not just contributing to one.
- A player-coach mentality: you lead by doing, not just directing.

Your Mission
We're seeking a Software Engineer I to join Stronghold's Tech Development team, your entry point into a firm where engineering isn't a support function, it's a competitive weapon.
You'll work on the backend systems, APIs, and data infrastructure that keep a technology-driven investment firm running at speed. From day one, you'll be writing real code on real systems, collaborating with senior engineers, data teams, and product to build infrastructure that directly impacts how Stronghold operates and invests.
Working primarily within a Ruby on Rails ecosystem, you'll gain hands-on experience building and supporting backend services powered by technologies including PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, and Microsoft Azure. You'll learn how these systems work together while contributing meaningful code to a platform built for speed, reliability, and scale.
This is the right opportunity for an early-career engineer with 1–3 years of experience who's hungry to grow fast, work on problems that matter, and build a foundation inside a firm that takes technical excellence seriously. If you want ownership earlier than you'd get anywhere else, this is it.
Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Own
- Build from the ground up. Design, develop, test, and maintain backend systems, APIs, and data workflows, primarily within a Ruby on Rails environment, that keep firm-wide operations running reliably and at scale.
- Learn the stack by building with it. Develop hands-on experience across technologies including Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Microsoft Azure while contributing to production systems.
- Make data trustworthy. Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and consistency across systems that investment teams depend on daily.

- Strengthen the data layer. Help build and optimize database schemas, queries, indexes, and data workflows across relational and non-relational technologies, including PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
- Connect the ecosystem. Contribute to integrations between internal systems, backend services, and third-party APIs, the connective tissue that makes the platform work as one.
- Build event-driven workflows. Support the development of asynchronous and event-driven systems using technologies such as Kafka to move data reliably across the platform.
- Automate the repetitive. Support the automation of data ingestion, validation, transformation, and operational workflows so the team can focus on what actually requires human judgment.
- Build for the cloud. Develop and support applications and services running in Microsoft Azure while gaining experience with modern cloud infrastructure and deployment practices.
- Grow through collaboration. Participate in code reviews, technical design sessions, and Agile ceremonies, learning from senior engineers while adding your own perspective.
- Solve what's broken. Troubleshoot and debug backend performance issues, data discrepancies, application errors, and system failures across environments.
- Keep systems visible. Contribute to monitoring, logging, and alerting so the team can identify and resolve issues quickly.
- Ship with confidence. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and partner with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to support reliable deployments and stable production systems.
Qualifications – What You Bring
- A strong technical foundation. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience that shows you can build.
- 1–3 years of backend experience. You've written real code in a professional, internship, or serious academic/project environment and you're ready to take on more.
- Ruby on Rails experience. Experience with Ruby on Rails through professional work, internships, coursework, or meaningful projects, with the ability and motivation to deepen your expertise quickly.

- CI/CD awareness. Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery concepts and an understanding of how modern engineering teams test, review, and deploy code.
- An analytical mind. You think carefully about problems before reaching for solutions, approach debugging methodically, and care about performance and precision.
- A team-first attitude. You collaborate well with engineering, data, product, and other cross-functional stakeholders, asking good questions, communicating clearly, and pulling your weight in an Agile environment.
- A learning mindset. You're curious about new technologies, receptive to feedback, and motivated to continuously improve your technical skills.
- The Stronghold standard. Precision, accountability, and genuine commitment to technical excellence. You hold yourself to a high bar because you take pride in your work.
Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart
- Oil & Gas, Financial Services, Real Assets, or Fintech experience through professional experience, internships, coursework, or related projects.

the craft. If you are looking for easy work, this is not the role. If you are looking for work that builds you into an expert, this is exactly the role.

Your Mission
We're seeking a Software Engineer II to join Stronghold's Tech Development team, where your backend and data systems work directly powers a technology-driven investment firm moving billions of dollars across real assets globally.
This isn't a typical engineering role. You'll build the scalable, high-performance infrastructure that gives Stronghold its edge: fast transaction velocity, algorithmic decision-making, and data systems that no traditional investment firm has. Working primarily within a Ruby on Rails ecosystem, you'll help develop and scale backend services powered by technologies including PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, and Microsoft Azure.
You'll work alongside senior engineers and cross-functional teams to shape architecture, drive performance, and own meaningful pieces of a stack that's genuinely differentiated in private markets.
This is a rare opportunity for a software engineer with 3–6 years of experience who's ready to go beyond feature work, someone who wants their technical decisions to matter, their contributions to be visible, and their career to accelerate inside a firm that moves fast, thinks deeply, and invests in its people.
Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Own
- Build the backbone. Design, develop, test, and maintain the APIs, backend services, and data workflows that power firm-wide operations, from transaction processing to investment analytics, primarily within a Ruby on Rails environment.
- Scale what matters. Architect and optimize data-intensive applications for performance, reliability, and efficiency, because at Stronghold, speed and accuracy aren't nice-to-haves, they're the business.
- Shape the platform. Collaborate with senior engineers, product teams, front-end developers, and other cross-functional stakeholders on system architecture and long-term technical design, contributing to decisions that will define how the firm operates for years.
- Own the pipeline. Build and maintain automated and event-driven data processing pipelines using technologies such as Kafka to keep information accurate, consistent, and moving, the kind of infrastructure the investment team depends on daily.
- Write code that lasts. Deliver clean, testable, maintainable code with a strong point of view on scalability, and back it up through thoughtful code reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices.
- Make the database fast. Optimize queries, data models, indexing strategies, and schema designs across technologies including PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch so nothing slows down the people making decisions with this data.
- Build for the cloud. Develop and support backend applications and services in Microsoft Azure, contributing to scalable cloud architecture and modern deployment practices.
- Keep the lights on, proactively. Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems so issues are caught before they become problems.
- Solve the hard stuff. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex system, performance, and data issues across environments, the problems other people have already given up on.
- Improve how we ship. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, engineering processes, and development practices that allow the team to move quickly without sacrificing quality.
- Move fast as a team. Participate in Agile ceremonies, bringing technical depth to sprint planning and pushing goals forward with the broader engineering team.
Qualifications – What You Bring
- A strong technical foundation. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience that proves you can do the work.
- 3–6 years of real backend experience. You've built and shipped backend systems, APIs, web applications, and data infrastructure, not just maintained them.
- Ruby on Rails expertise. Strong hands-on experience developing scalable backend applications and services using Ruby on Rails.
- Architectural instincts. You understand how distributed systems behave under pressure, API design, service boundaries, failure modes, and all.
- SQL you're proud of. Deep, hands-on experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL. You know the difference between a query that works and one that scales.
- Experience beyond relational databases. You're comfortable working with technologies such as Redis and Elasticsearch and understand when different data stores are appropriate.
- Experience with event-driven systems. Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging and streaming technologies, including building reliable asynchronous or event-driven workflows.
- Comfort in the cloud. Experience developing and operating applications in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure, with familiarity with Docker and modern containerized deployment practices.
- CI/CD fluency. Experience working with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines and modern software development practices.
- Observability mindset. You don't just write code, you instrument it. You know how to build systems you can actually see inside of.
- A track record of solving hard problems. You've hunted down performance bottlenecks, application issues, and scalability challenges and fixed them, and you can talk through how.
- A collaborative approach. You communicate effectively with engineers, product stakeholders, and cross-functional partners, including team members working across locations and time zones.
- The Stronghold standard. Precision, accountability, and a genuine commitment to technical excellence. You hold your own work to a high bar, not because you're asked to, but because you care.
Preferred Qualifications - What Sets You Apart
- Oil & Gas, Financial Services, Real Assets, or Fintech experience is a significant plus.
- Broader data-store experience, including SQL Server and MongoDB.
- Data processing experience with libraries or frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, or Polars.
- Strong adoption of AI tools, with demonstrated knowledge and practical experience using AI in development workflows.
